What to Bring to Performances and Rehearsals

1. Instruments. Everyone supplies their own instrument and is responsible for transporting it. If you play a larger instrument, e.g. double bass, you may want to consider some sort of cart or wagon to haul it. If you have the option, don't bring your super expensive instrument. The playa is a very harsh environment - hot, dry, and incredible dusty.

2. Music. Copies of your sheet music. Wind is a MAJOR factor on playa. You must plan for it. What's worked well for me is putting the music in 3-holed, clear plastic sleeves, and then putting those in a 3-ring binder. Use clothes pins to hold the pages in the wind (oversized ones are best for easy page turns and clippings).

3. Music Stand. The folding wire kind work okay and are easy to transport. But again, wind is an issue so consider how you might secure the stand. Some people use weights; I've used my backpack. As a flutist, I can also hold it with my foot.

4. Seating. A chair if you play an instrument that requires you to be seated. Everyone else will stand.

5. Sunglasses. This is a must, as there are always a couple of performances where the sun will be in our eyes.

6. Attire. Wear whatever fun thing you want. This is Burning Man, so dress to express!
